Resources

There’s a wealth of useful information and tools available to guide you in helping people living with dementia and their carers. Whether you’re running or volunteering in a memory cafe, or supporting someone who has dementia, these excellent resources are a great source of support, ideas and expertise.
Memory Cafe Hub
This website was created by DMCC ourselves, with funding from Devon County Council. It’s a highly detailed resource packed with useful, practical information that anyone involved with a memory cafe – whether in Devon or beyond – will find invaluable.
The Memory Cafe Hub combines written guidance with an extensive set of films we commissioned, enabling you to hear first-hand accounts of people who have set up, managed, volunteered in and benefitted from memory cafes. It also includes a free interactive training course designed for volunteers.

The Memory Cafe Hub comprises two main areas…
Running a memory cafe

This series of online articles and films offers advice and ideas on every aspect of starting and managing a memory cafe – including publicity, legal compliance, volunteering and activity planning.
Dementia awareness training

This free online training course is delivered through a series of films. It is designed for memory cafe volunteers and can be done independently or with feedback from a memory cafe volunteer.
Guide for carers of people living with dementia in Devon
This booklet contains a vast amount of information which could be useful to anyone caring for someone with dementia. It answers many common questions and signposts to many other valuable sources of advice and support.
The booklet is an updated version of one originally created by the late Jim Delves, and by David Light, both of whom were instrumental in setting up DMCC.
Dementia Toolkit
This set of resources is designed to help people to ‘live well’ with dementia, and to inspire hope for the future. Based on research, and drawing on real-life experiences of people with dementia and their carers, the Toolkit provides useful and well-informed advice.
The Toolkit is built around five key themes: Stay safe and well; Stay connected; Keep a sense of purpose; Stay active; and Stay positive.
Knowledge is Power England
Published by DEEP (the UK Network of Dementia Voices) and Innovations in Dementia, this digital booklet provides a wealth of information and advice to guide people who have been diagnosed with dementia.
The booklet offers advice on areas that include benefits and allowances, travel and mobility, and planning for the future.
